My name is Danny Hunt and I just want to express my deepest sympathy at the passing of Miss Kelly. She was my teacher at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Bristol Virginia in 1953 and a friend for many years after. In 1953 teachers were required yo visit rach students home twice per year and she was welcome in my Mom's house anytime. More than the two times a year, for many years she came to our house as I had five brothers who all had Miss Kelly for their first grade teacher. Her visits were not confined to just discussing a students progress in the classroom but to knowing about each of their family life outside of the school environment. She taught everday values as well as reading "Dick and Jane". I am honored to call Miss Kelly my teacher and friend and her presence will be greatly missed. It is a priviledge to have known her. St. Luke Methodist was my family's church from its beginning until my dad passed away in 1995. We knew Miss Kelly for many years. I remember vividly what a sweet lady she was and how much we enjoyed knowing her until she moved away. My sympathy to her family. Sincerely, Annabeth Roland Spivey

Miss Kelly What a teacher! I am one of her former first grade students in 1940-41 at Jefferson Elementary School in Bristol, Virginia. She taught more than reading and writing, but love and concern for our enirviornment and fellow students and citizens. She help make me into who I am today. I visited with her serveral times in the last few years. She remembered me and three of my brothers and sisters whom she also taught. I was happy to have sent her a dozen red roses for her 100th birthday. She and her teaching abilities have made this world a better place to live. She will always live in the lives of every one she taught. Thanks, Ms Kelley for being there when we needed you in our first year of schooling. I would like to hear from some of my fellow first grade pals that were in her class 65 years ago to talk about our beloved TEACHER. JoeMumpower@aol.com

To the family of Miss Kelly: Having moved from Bristol some 30 years ago, I make it a habit to read the Bristol paper online to keep up with what is going on in my hometown. How saddened I was to read this morning of the passing of Miss Kelly. If this is the Miss Kelly that taught first grade at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School then I was one of her pupils during the 1955-56 school year. I have always remembered my first grade teacher, Miss Kelly. While time has clouded many of the memories of the first grade, it has not clouded the name of Miss Kelly. Miss Kelly gave me my educational start. Miss Kelly nurtured the gift of reading in me. I hope she would be proud of what she started. I earned a doctorate and am finishing up my 33rd year of employment in public school education in Virginia. What a wonderful woman. Heaven is enriching itself with a wonderful teacher. My deepest sympathy to the family of Miss Kelly.
