The news of Mr. Lemmon's passing just reached us here in Washington State. On behalf of my sister Patricia, my mother Anne, we all send our heartfelt condolences to you. Your father was extremely well thought of by my uncle Skeets and my mother Anne and my father Theron. My late brother Johnny often spoke of the times he spent with his uncle Skeets, Jim or Lon Russell grooming the horses for the horse shows. I personally remember Nina and Betsy and knew both Curtis and my classmate Lynn. We have all you in our thoughts and prayers. The Broadys

There has never been a gentleman more worthy of the title "The Honorable" as Mr. Lemmon was often referred to, given his many years selfless service in a multitude of capacities to our entire Commonwealth. Marion, Smyth County, and all of Southwest Virginia have lost a great friend and advocate, especially when it comes to funding for rural Virginia, especially its schools. I'm proud to have known Bill and to have had an opportunity to hear his wise counsel and words of advice on many occasions with my life-long dear friend, Jim Scott. Rosa and family, please know that you will all be in our thoughts and prayers as not only those who knew him personally, but all Virginia mourn the loss of a grand leader and statesman.

So, the thing I believe is this: this wonderful man, a man who cried openly and with heartfelt empathy; a fellow who was always kind and gentle and interested in everybody's lives; a man who did what he did because of the love in his heart for his favorite fellow, the One who blessed him with family and love every day of his life. Guy Penrod has a song about heaven that has this line in it: "I could pray you back but why do that when you're somewhere life and love never die." Says it all. I have some of my best memories in that house with Betsy and watching him, usually in the library, read and smile...or cry. God bless all of you...sometimes when you love someone so very much...when you've never lived a day without him in it...you feel lost without them...so, loss, sadness, grief turn someday, somehow into an okay thing and life goes on. The years have passed but the memories are still fresh about the Lemmon family, Bill, Rosa and the "girls." There was nothing like a trip with Dad to the "shop" and a chance to sit in the big trucks! He was one of the nicest and kindness people I've met over the years! Marion/Smyth Co. won't be the same without him!

To The Lemmon Family I have the fondest memories of Mr. Lemmon coming down from his office in the (now Wells Fargo Building) and asking for assistance of any kind and we would have wonderful little "chats" about so many things. I always enjoyed every time we had the opportunity. He was so "full" of knowledge on any subject that came up. He will be missed beyond measure. He always spoke so highly of his family. That is one thing that always impressed me so much about him. I know you will miss him terribly but you can see him again one day. His legacy will forever be present. Love and Prayers to all of you. Just spoke with Anne Jackson, here at Mt.CAP.I'm certain she shares a loss similar to mine in that our memories go back to younger days of our lives. My thoughts are those of a family that always seem to care deeply for the Walkers during tough times and the good times.Mr. Bill kept my Father, Tiny, in work in Marion, and he was there to share a number of holidays and socials with my parents that I fondly remember as a child. Mr. Lemmon is just one of those geat guys that you wish that your children would grow up to be like, someday. If heaven's like I think it's gonna be---Perhaps we'll all get to "wet a line together" with Mr. Lemmon in the South Fork up yonder.
