Obituary of Dollie Billings
RURAL RETREAT, VIRGINIA: DOLLIE G. BILLINGS, age 85, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at her home in Rural Retreat, Virginia.
She was the daughter of a preacher and a faithful member of Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church for many years. Dollie worked for her son for over 25 years as a sales person and office manager. She was very active and outgoing; an artist and gardener, and the most creative woman her family had ever known. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt; and she is now reunited with her son, Darrell.
She is survived by a loving son, daughter and son-in-law, Jack Billings, Jr., of Rural Retreat, Virginia and Donna and Benny Thomas of Bristol, Virginia; her former husband of 37 years, Jack Billings, Sr.; four sisters, Annie Harpe, Josephine Meade, Lois Roark and Beulah Johnston; five brothers, Ike Gentry, John Gentry, Roy Gentry, Bobby Gentry and Billy Gentry; ten grandchildren, Joey, Jessica, Desirae, Gracie, Cooper, Danielle, Rodney, Brooke, Jordan and Devin; a great-grandson, Sullivan Isaac Martin; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, Resurrection Gardens. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church, 442 Freedom Tabernacle Lane, Atkins Virginia 24311.
