Obituary of Gloria Miller

GLORIA JANE PARKS MILLER, age 76, passed away on November 9, 2007 at her home on Amelia Island Plantation. She was surrounded by family and close friends. Gloria was born in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Landon High School and attended Mary Baldwin College in Virginia. She was married in 1952 to David F. Miller of Jacksonville, Florida. Her son, David, was born in 1954, followed by the birth of her triplet daughters, Jane, Clara, and Elizabeth in 1956. Gloria's passion was always with her family. Despite moving many times to different cities through out the United States supporting her husband's career with the J.C. Penny Co., she made a vibrant and loving home for her husband and four children. In addition, she actively supported numerous charitable causes combining her love of life with her love of sports. Upon retirement at Amelia Island Plantation, her influence made this location the center of all important family functions. She was adored by seven grandchildren who called her "Glo". Her generosity, kindness, and enjoyment of simple pleasures made time spent with her always very special. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David F. Miller Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Miller of Amelia Island, Florida and their children Elizabeth and James; daughter, Clara Miller of Amelia Island, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Ken MacDonald of Greenville, North Carolina and their children Gloria, Clara, and Elizabeth; and daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Ben Hynson of Cary, North Carolina and their children Warren and Nicklaus. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Ralph Parks of Marion, Virginia. Visitation for family and friends was held at the Amelia Island Plantation, Ocean Clubhouse, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2007. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Baptist Medical Center Nassau, Development Office, Memorial Garden Fund, 1250 South 8th Street, Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034.
