Dear family of Mrs. Courtney, I had Mrs. Courtney as my seventh grade English teacher, and credit her with giving to me an understanding of language that resulted in my interest in becoming a writer. She was also my sponsor for MGA for three years: once as page; once as senator; and finally as Speaker of the House in 1973. She was a great lady, and the world is a smaller place without her in it.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your mother, grandmother,my teacher and above all a lady. Mrs. Courtney was not only a fine teacher but a terrific friend. She certainly exhibited the traits of a LADY! We should all aspire to become the kind of person she was. My sympathy to all. Love Dixie
