MARION, VIRGINIA: ROBERT LEE (BOB) MARTIN, age 82, died Wednesday, January 4, 2012 in Smyth County Community Hospital following a short illness. A lifelong resident of Smyth County, Bob was born in Chilhowie on May 18, 1929 to the late Vena and Clint Martin. A U.S. Army veteran, Bob retired from Brunswick Defense Corporation in 1987. He was a member of Stone Memorial Presbyterian Church and an avid Virginia Tech fan. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kelly Martin Calahan, two sisters, Thelma Peake and Ruth Dixon, one brother Ralph Martin, and his parents. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Janice Arnold Martin, Marion, Virginia; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Haga, Coppell, Texas; one son-in-law, Louis Calahan, Manassas, Virgina; one son and daughter-in-law, Jenny and Dennis Martin, St. Petersburg, Florida; four grandchildren, Jason Martin, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Quinn, Carleigh, and Luke Calahan, Manassas, Virginia. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver Brown Funeral Chapel in Marion, Virginia, with Dr. John DiYorio officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver Brown Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions be considered for either the Atkins Food Pantry, 6118 Lee Highway, Atkins, VA 24311 or Nicks Creek Presbyterian Church, c/o Ms. Emma Sexton, 170 Kelly Hill Road, Atkins, VA 24311.
