Obituary of Raymond Jarvis

SUGAR GROVE, VIRGINIA: RAYMOND ROOSEVELT JARVIS, age 78, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011 at his home in Sugar Grove. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Raymond was born in Indiana on March 20, 1933 to the late Colonel and Lena Jennings Jarvis. He was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church and had worked as a farmer all his life. He loved to keep track of the weather, work in his garden and he loved fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, C.B. Jarvis and his loving wife of 43 years, Treva Wyatt Jarvis. Raymond is survived by his sister, Lucille Barker of Bristol, Tennessee; a very special friend, Mary Dickerson of Sugar Grove, Virginia; his three children, Kenneth Jarvis and wife, Tammy of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Alan Jarvis and wife, Gail of Chilhowie, Virginia and Karen Gibson and husband, Ted of Sherrill's Ford, North Carolina; ten grandchildren, Stacie Greene of Durham, North Carolina, Sarah Jarvis of Chilhowie, Virginia, Tommy Jarvis of Chilhowie, Virginia, Sarah Adams of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Tyler Adams of Sugar Grove, Virginia, Logan Jarvis of Marion, Virginia, Alaina Jarvis of San Antonio, Texas, Trevor Jarvis of Troutdale, Virginia, Ashley Perkins of Flat Ridge, Virginia and his most recent little blessing from God, Gabrielle Jane Gibson of Sherrill's Ford, North Carolina. Raymond is also survived by six great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and a circle of friends that have provided constant encouragement and support throughout his illness. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at Sugar Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Billy Gwinn, Reverend Clayton Hounshell, Reverend Donald Medley and Reverend Kenny Price officiating. Burial Service will be held Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Pierce Cemetery in Sugar Grove, Virginia. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service at Sugar Grove Baptist Church. The family wishes to express its appreciation and sincere thanks to Home Nursing Company and their staff, especially Dorothy Johnson, for their loving care and attention given to both Raymond and the family. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sugar Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 168, Sugar Grove, VA 24375.
