Obituary of Sidney Mays

SEVEN MILE FORD: REV. SIDNEY F. MAYS, JR., age 80, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 05, 2004 in Smyth County Community Hospital. Rev. Mays was an ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene, having served for over 50 years. He touched many lives with his love for the Lord, church, family and he never wavered. Rev. Mays started the Newell Glendale Church of the Nazarene in 1954 and started the Seven Mile Ford Church of the Nazarene in 1978. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. In 1945, he witnessed the signing of the peace treaty between America and Japan to end World War II. Rev. Mays is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 58 years, Helen F. Mays of Seven Mile Ford, Virginia; Four daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Booth and husband, Chuck of Raleigh, North Carolina, Donna LeMasters and husband, Larry of Chesapeake, Virginia, Ann Williams and husband, Lawrence and Bonnie Hayton and husband, Chris all of Marion, Virginia; One son and daughter-in-law, Allen Mays and wife, Debbie of Bristol, Virginia; Two sisters, Garnett Cody and Shirley Mentz both of Covington, Virginia; One brother, Basil Mays of Timberville, Virginia; Twelve grandchildren, Tonya, Tyann, Eric, Shannon, Kristi, Shawn, Jeremy, Les, Ashley, Ryan, B.J. and Alexus; Ten Great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Mike Halsey and Rev. Scott Price officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by Marion V.F.W. Post #4667. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. The Mays Family would like to give special thanks for all the love, prayers and visits given during Rev. Mays illness.
