I was saddened to hear of Mr. Barkers passing. I enjoyed our time we spent together on night shift at the manor and enjoyed the stories he told me of my family members he knew. I know heaven gained an extraordinary angel. To the family I am very sorry for your loss.

We will miss Uncle Robert. Every time I would see him he would ask where his hug was. I have many fond memories sitting on Herbert or Mary's porch listening to Robert sharing family stories or telling about his life experiences. My only regret is not making time to learn more from him. He had a great memory and could retell so many things he had been told over the years. Many times I remember him telling me that I needed to tell everyone at school that I was related to "Bob Barker." I feel so blessed to have gotten to spend as much time as I have over the years with him. In the last conversation I had with him, he told me that he was ready to go. He knew he was Heaven bound. He not only shared his faith with others, but he modeled it as well. The world has lost a great man, but I plan to see him again one day. He joins his parents, brothers, and my own daughter Jincy. He will no longer have to struggle to breathe or suffer any pain.

Our community has lost another fine Christian man and proud American. I first met Mr. Barker many years ago when he was part of the color guard at so many funerals at Rose Lawn when I worked for the Moore's. He was such a good person and the kind of Dad that I would been proud to have. The Barker's raised a fine family and now he will watch and wait for you. Our prayers to Mrs. Baker and thier family. God Bless you, Karen Gillespie

I just got home and saw the email. Tears came to my eyes as I realized another "real Vet" had heard the taps "Day is done, gone the sun. From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky. All is well, safely rest God is near." What a honor it had been! What a small token of our appreciation, the bronze star awarded on Feb 5 2009 was. He was worried about all the fuss! No fuss, our honor. Sleep well now my friend

Robert was one of the finest men I ever knew. He and I got to know each other when I was ressearching my Barker ancesters. I really enjoyed working with him on my genealogy. RIP
